I first met Jeremy at a charity weekend in 2007, coordinating the PR for the Pro Celebrity Union. At that time Jeremy shared with me his vision for a future foundation. I was immediately intrigued by the cause as my dearest friend was my grandfather and I had never met someone my age to hold this same esteem for the elderly as Jeremy had shared with me. While the foundation was unique, its mission did not truly resonate with me until I watched my grandfather pass away a few months later.
My grandfather was one of the world's biggest sports fans. He was a living sports encyclopedia and could rattle off statistics for virtually any sport at the blow of a whistle. In his last months he revealed to me his final wish to attend the USC vs Nebraska football match at Huskers Stadium. I was determined to make this simple wish of a football game come true. I worked with my grandfather writing his letters to Nebraska Alumni asking for them to help fulfill his wish, but ultimately due to health constraints he was unable to make the trip. It was at this time that Jeremy's vision for the "Wish of a Lifetime" program became real to me.
When Jeremy called me in spring 2008 to share his plans to launch his foundation and asked me to step on board my only response was YES! The time I put towards the Foundation is a living tribute to my best friend and grandfather, Big Boy, who like many elderly men and women are unable to live out their ultimate wishes. I am proud to be a part of the Donna Wheeler Foundation team and look forward honoring the elderly and making ultimate wishes come true through the Wish of a Lifetime Program.
